That's The Power Of Prayer

Desire Delight Devotional

Psalm 6:9 NLT

"⁹The Lord has heard my plea; the Lord will answer my prayer."

James 5:13-18

"¹³Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. ¹⁴Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. ¹⁵Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven. ¹⁶Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. ¹⁷Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! ¹⁸Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops."

Revelation 8:1-5

"¹When the Lamb broke the seventh seal on the scroll, there was silence throughout heaven for about half an hour. ²I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and they were given seven trumpets. ³Then another angel with a gold incense burner came and stood at the altar. And a great amount of incense was given to him to mix with the prayers of God’s people as an offering on the gold altar before the throne. ⁴The smoke of the incense, mixed with the prayers of God’s holy people, ascended up to God from the altar where the angel had poured them out. ⁵Then the angel filled the incense burner with fire from the altar and threw it down upon the earth; and thunder crashed, lightning flashed, and there was a terrible earthquake."

There is real power in the act of prayer.  Do you believe that?

These passages were our scripture focus this past week, and we've experienced some awesome power in prayer.  We see these movements in scripture to continue in prayer, to be seasoned in prayer, to take action in prayer, and to seek God’s will in prayer, in Jesus' name.

Having some helpful habits, handy methods, and proper mindsets are essential to witnessing the power of prayer!

Question:

What are some highs and lows in your own prayer life?

Commit:

Be seasoned, take action, and to seek God’s will in prayer, in Jesus' name.

Prayer:

Father God, you have created this function of prayer and given us the gift of connection in prayer through your Son.  Shine your light on the power of prayer in your will, the purpose of prayer in our role, and the promise of prayer in your Word.  We seek your will to be done and your name to be glorified as we pray.  In Christ Jesus.  Amen and Amen.
